The Tokyo district of Itabashi Ward previously had a total of 14 movie theaters as of 1960, but left with none following the 1991 closure of the Narimasu International Theater in Narimasu after a 33-year run. This left Itabashi without a movie theater until the opening of the Warner Mycal Cinemas Itabashi nine years later.
The Warner Mycal Cinemas Itabashi opened its doors on May 25, 2000 with 12 screens and a total capacity of 2,296 seats. It was renamed the Aeon Cinema Itabashi on July 1, 2013.
Screen 11 is the smallest with 92 seats and Screen 8 is the largest with 545 seats. Screen 8 is also a former THX auditorium with a Sculpted audio system.
