The Asahikawa Toho opened its doors on December 28, 1956 as a 701-seat single-screener. At the time, Asahikawa City had 19 movie theaters, including Asahikawa Toho. After closing for renovation in April 1984, it reopened as a twin on July 7, 1984 under the name Asahikawa Toho Scalaza.
However, when more cinemas began popping in across Asahikawa (including the Cineplex Asahikawa and the Dinos Cinemas Asahikawa), the theater managed to rename the theater “Asahikawa Toho 1 & 2” and the staff almost completely dropped foreign features include American titles.
Because of poor business and the deterioration of the building, the theater closed on August 31, 2010.
