Of the four Jerry Lewis Cinema locations in the Columbus metropolitan area, the Gahanna Cinema is never mentioned as if it was forgotten or never existed. It opened before the last location in the Graceland Shopping Center. The Gahanna location in the Gahanna Shopping Center was the first to permanently close and received little press coverage, which makes its lack of recognition understandable. The details of its opening and closing are cloudy, leading to guessestimating. The first newspaper account that I found in the Columbus Dispatch was on June 1, 1972 in the business section. The theater was under construction, according to Joseph Amico, holder of the Jerry Lewis franchise in Columbus.

Relying on the theater listings and movie advertisements, the first appearance of the Jerry Lewis Gahanna was on October 11, 1972. The Jerry Lewis name was withdrawn in July 1973, as reported in the Columbus Dispatch on July 5, 1973. The new name of the “Gahanna” was first used on June 24, 1973 in the theater listings. The last mention of the theater was on May 4, 1974, showing “The Day of the Dolphin.”
