Tampa Theatre (Greeson)

The Greeson Theater located on N. Tampa Street opened its doors by E.M. Greeson on June 9, 1910 with a live stage presentation of “In the Palace of the King”. It originally planned to open the previous month but was postponed due to shipping delays on more seats.

On October 26, 1914, the Greeson Theater was renamed the Tampa Theatre after a short closure due to both remodeling and improvement, alongside new management led by A. LaBelle, P. Noland, and G.W. Stephenson. It reopened that same day with the Five Armanis in “A Night In Naples” alongside four vaudeville acts from the duo Madison & James, Mabel Johnson, Jack Polk, and the husband-and-wife team of Burt and Lottie Walton.

This was the true original Tampa Theatre before the much larger and very popular Tampa Theatre on N. Franklin Street was built a few streets away in 1926.

The original Tampa Theatre closed its doors for the final time on April 19, 1917 with the Hazele Burgess Players in the stage presentation of “Along Came Ruth”.
