Wildwood Airdome

On October 9, 1913, a permit for the construction of the city’s first Airdome was issued by St. Petersburg’s clerk to the Keller Brothers of Wildwood, New Jersey. The Keller Brothers were originally operators of several amusement companies including a Billiards center. The airdome was named the Wildwood Airdome after the Keller Brothers' hometown in New Jersey.

The Wildwood Airdome was located on Central Avenue N between both 5th Street S and 6th Street S and opened its gates on November 26, 1913, featuring a 14x19ft stage, a capacity of 750 seats, and a nickel/dime policy.

Unfortunately the Keller Brothers were very unsuccessful at operating the Wildwood Airdome. Only operating for a couple of months, the Wildwood Airdome operation was then tossed over to P.R. Dane who also operated it for a time. Then along comes Rex Theatre operator Harry Platt who took over the theater in July 1914.

Platt operated the Wildwood Airdome more than both the Kellers and Dane, but was unfortunately closed later that year and was torn down to make way for a three-story building. However, some of the benches were taken out of the Airdome and were placed on sidewalks near several intersections in January 1915.
