Out of Fulda’s thirteen movie theaters in its history, the Castle Theatre is Fulda’s eighth movie house and was constructed by F.C. Schloenbach & Ernst Kramer as an extension to the former riding hall of Fulda Castle.

The Castle Theatre opened in mid-December 1951 and originally features a 16.60x25.50ft screen, Bauer B III projectors, and a capacity of 750 wine red upholstered seats. The Castle Theatre was originally planned to open as a 1,000-seat theatre but adding a tier was not realized at all, so that plan was scrapped. There is also a room on the first floor that was closed off by a wide glass window which makes it possible to monitor the performance and to accommodate visitors who do not want to be seen in the theatre.

After closing as a movie house in 1972, it reopened again as a live venue under the name Schlosstheater.
