St. Louis got its second and less important Dreamland Theater at 2103 Cass Avenue. Its first had opened in 1906, the second nickelodeon movie theater in town on South Broadway. This Dreamland Theatre was also a silent-era venue beginning operation in May of 1910 and had live vaudeville with $2 prizes for winners and motion pictures. It was in a mixed area of town in which two factories, a host of retail stores, and row houses co-existed. It wasn’t an affluent part of town.
In 1915, the Dreamland Theatre was renamed as the Flo-May Theater. It closed in 1917 and, sadly, is the only Cinema Treasures entry carrying the Flo-May name. The building does not appear to have continued as a theater. The entire area was demolished in urban renewal. An industrial building has taken the former Flo-May Theater’s spot in the 21st Century.
