Located in Palm Beach on Queensland’s Gold Coast at the corner of Gold Coast Highway and Sixth Avenue. The Palm Beach Theatre was built by Bert Cockerill who was an avid photographer and film buff.

It was opened in 1949 and was a family affair. His daughter Margaret was the projectionist, and the family including his son Bert lived in an apartment above the cinema foyer. It was renamed Golden Cockerel Cinema in 1950 (although not a reference to Bert Cockerill’s name).
