In 2020, Sciota, Illinois' population was 38. But in the 1920’s, it had 195 people - all of whom could have fit in the Sciota Opera House that turned Sciota Theatre in 1924. The Sciota Theatre played silent films and, like many theaters of the era, was unable to convert to sound.
Unfortunately, the entire business district is no longer standing as the village appears to be struggling to maintain its viability.
