Located on the south side of the city in the notorious slum tenement district named the Gorbals. The Crown Cinema was opened in 1914. It had a narrow entrance beside a tenement close entrance and had a decorative pediment, flanked by two gas lights. The small gas-lit auditorium had seating on long wooden benches, and it had a tin roof. It was operated by J.M. Drummond. The Crown Cinema was closed and demolished in 1930.
On its site J.M. Drummond built the Jazz age style 900-seat Crown Cinema. (It has its own page on Cinema Treasures as the George Cinema)
