Georgia’s largest open-air airdome simply named “Airdome” opened its doors on June 13, 1914, with a capacity of 1,000 seats. The open-air theater itself features a garden-effect with hundreds of Japanese lanterns hung in festoons.

Exactly one week after the theater officially opened, an unexpected incident happened. Shortly after closing for the night on June 21, 1914, the original ticket seller, Emma Pope, was severely beaten by her husband, Arthur Pope. A man later discovered her lying on the sidewalk next to her father’s home unconscious. The man recognized her and took her to the house of Aaron J. King, Emma Pope’s father. Right after her father discovered Emma being severely beaten, she was taken to Grady Hospital.

Its closing date remains unrecognizable.
