This theatre appears on the 1915 Sanborn, the only one ever issued for this small town. It was located in the northern half of a two-story brick commercial building which likely dated to soon after the founding of Conrad in 1880.
The theatre was located on the second floor. This may later have been renamed the Strand Theatre, as the 1926-1927 listings show this name. It is shown without a capacity, possibly closed, and the population of Conrad is listed erroneously as 60. The 1928 listings have an Opera House, likewise with no capacity. This would be a sensible name for an upstairs theatre in an old building. In any case, Conrad has vanished from the listings in 1929.
The building today is in excellent shape, and the ground floor is used as retail/offices while the upstairs may be apartments.

The 1905-1906 Polk’s Iowa Directory lists the Phoenix Opera House at Conrad, and it’s also listed in the 1908-1909 and the 1912-1913 directories. It’s possible that this building housed a theater from the time of its construction, whenever that was. I’ve been unable to find the house in any of the Cahn guides, but the Phoenix Theatre is the only house listed at Conrad in the 1914-1915 American Motion Picture Directory.
