Cinemark de Mexico built its first Mexican multiplex in 1995, a 10-screen theater in Juarez featuring both U.S. film with Spanish subtitles and Spanish-language titles. Opened in the Plaza Camino, the theater stood the test of time. It also fundamentally changed the movie-going habiits of Jaureneses who often crossed the border to go to the UA Bassett Theatre.
The Plaza Del Camino 10 opened on September 22, 1995 with “Waterworld” (Mundo Acuatico), “Crimson Tide” (Marea Roja), “Dos Crimenes”, “Apollo Trece”, “El Esposo de la Peluq”, “Power Rangers”, “El Callejón de los Milagros”, and “El Rieno de Las Tineblas”.
In February of 2013, Cinemex acquired Cinemark’s Mexican theater locations including this one. In 2015, Cinemex (technically, Cadena Mexicana de Exhibición S.A. de C.V.) branched into the United States under the CMX banner having more than 25 locations in the 2020’s.
