The first drive-in in Monterey County held a guests-only preview on June 14, 1948 at the west corner of North Sanborn Road and Garner Street in Salinas. The Skyview Drive-In held its formal opening the following night, showing “Robin Hood” with Errol Flynn, “A Boy and His Dog”, and a comedy cartoon. It was built and operated by Mr. and Mrs. Antone Martines, assisted by sons Noel and Marvin, per stories in the Salinas Californian.
The 1977 Motion Picture Almanac included the Skyview Drive-In in Salinas, owned by N. Martins, with a capacity of 550 cars.
The Skyview Drive-In showed movies through October 1994. It was closed in 2000 and demolished in July 2001, according to a story in the Californian. The Martin Luther King Jr. Academy occupies the site today.

The Skyview closed in 2000, and it appears advertisements stopped that late-May.
