In May 1952, Boxoffice magazine reported that Ed McKenzie had cleared seven acres adjoining by Bay Point resort to build the Bay Point Drive-In. He planned to open in June.
The Whitefish Pilot reported that the Bay Point Drive-In opened June 1, 1952. It had 200 speakers and room for 250 cars. Its screen was 30x41 feet, and its concession building included windows for watching the movie while eating. The Bay Point’s first program was Wendell Corey in “The Wild Blue Yonder” and the musical cartoon “Little Witch”. It advertised in the Pilot through 1958.
The 1956 Motion Picture Almanac included the Bay Point Drive-In in Whitefish, capacity 200 cars, owner Ed McKenzie.
A 1956 aerial photo showed a small drive-in on Bay Point by Whitefish. It was completely gone by 1982, and nothing remains of the drive-in today. Bearberry Lane crosses what was the Bay Point’s viewing field. The house closest to the former screen position is 8 Bearberry Lane.
