The Sapporo Toei and Underground Theaters opened its doors on December 26, 1955. The Underground Theater was renamed the Toei Palace in 1963 and began screening Toei foreign films.
In 1980, the second floor of the theater was renovated and was tripled when a third screen (known as the Toei Hall) opened. The Toei Hall auditorium was renamed the Toei Palace 2 in 1988. On April 25, 1997, the Toei Palace was renamed the Cine Switch Sapporo.
In December 2002, it was announced that the Sapporo Toei will be closing following the opening of the Sapporo Cinema Frontier, a multiplex jointly operated by all three chains (Toei, Toho, and Shochiku). The opening of the Sapporo Cinema Frontier caused the closures of the Shochiku Yurakukan, Sapporo Toei, and the Sapporo Toho Plaza.
The Sapporo Toei closed for the final time on March 30, 2003, and was building was demolished. It first make way for a parking lot, but in June 2008, there were plans that the Daiwa Roynet Hotel Sapporo will be built on its site but that was relocated. The La'Gent Stay Sapporo Odori hotel now occupies the former Toei’s site.
