The Phoenix Block was built in 1873 with address’s running from 114-124 1st Avenue E. The Hewitt’s Family Theatre was open at #118 by March 1908. It was a nickelodeon, operated by F.S. Hewitt and had 3-shows a day. It was a short-lived operation.

The space at #118 in the Phoenix Block by August 2013 was occupied by ‘Interiors by Val’, who were still there in July 2018. By May 2023 it was a cafe.

The Phoenix Block originally had addresses running 114-124. 114 was either remodeled or replaced. 120 has been completely butchered. 122 and 124 were torn down around 1980 for the bank drive through that is there now. 118 on the 1902 map is ‘Meat’. The 1910 map shows it as ‘Meats’ with a printing operation on the second floor.
