The Gay Drive-In, named for the owners' grand-daughter, was opened one mile south of Enterprise on August 7, 1953 with Errol Flynn in “The Sea Hawk” & Randolph Scott in “The Gunfighters”. It was owned by Mr. and Mrs. A. B. Stockdale, and was to hold 350 cars.
A 1956 aerial photo showed a drive-in one mile south of Enterprise on Hurricane Creek Road. The screen was gone by 1981. Today, the house near the entrance has the address of 78444 Stockdale Lane. The original projection building is part of a structure in the back yard.

Boxoffice, April 24, 1954: “Alvah B. Stockdale, 56, owner of the Vista Theatre and Gay Drive-In at Enterprise in eastern Oregon, died after suffering a heart attack. Stockdale … in 1933 moved to Enterprise where he and his wife operated the Vista. They built the 350-car Gay Drive-In in 1953.”
