Situated in Sale, once in Cheshire, but now part of Greater Manchester, the Northern Light Cinema opened on Wednesday 12th February 2025. Housed in a former WH Smith store, that had closed in September 2024, it is part of the regeneration of the 1960’s Stanley Square shopping precinct.
The Northern Light is operated by Manero Cinemas, the family-run business, led by Tony and Amanda Mundin, that includes, in the North West, the Savoy, Heaton Moor and the Rex, Wilmslow (see separate Cinema Treasures entries) in their expanding circuit.
The three screens, fitted with luxury seats and sofas, are designated by colour: the Blue and Green Screens each have 54 seats, while the Green Screen has 32.
The opening films included romantic comedy sequel “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy”, starring Renée Zellweger, and Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford in the superhero adventure “Captain America: Brave New World”.
