Following World War II, returning soldiers used the benefits of the G.I. Bill to build new theaters. In Alabama, unassuming movie houses were built in unlikely towns. The Rog Theatre in Piscah, the Sylvia Theatre in Sylvania and the Gerald Theatre in Geraldine are such venues.

Amusement Enterprises Circuit of Albertville built this venue in a partnership with Geraldine Amusement Co. operated by Aaron Lowry. It opened on June 7, 1947 with the film, “Renegades” with Evelyn Keyes supported by the short, “Pardon My Terror” with Richard Lane and a cartoon. it closed in 1958.

In 1961, E.M Box, Jr. relaunched it as the Sande Theater. He was best known for six years of managing the Dekalb Theatre in nearby Fort Payne. It opened with Gary Cooper in “Man of the West” on August 18, 1961. The venue becomes on event center in 1962 operating in the 1970’s and reverting to the Gerald Theatre moniker. It appears to have converted to a church which would time out with a 25-year leasing agreement.
