The DeSoto Theatre opened on October 24, 1941 with “I Wanted Wings”. The 350-seat theatre didn’t last too long. It was sold in 1945 and suffered a quick and devastating fire. It reopened thereafter.
The DeSoto Theatre advertised consistently through 1955. It was offered for sale and taken on by a number of folks. A traded press advertisement in 1949 states that the theatre has 275 seats, a cafe, and a four-room apartment. All that could have been yours for $15,000. The theatre soldiered on. In 1957, the venue is in the classified advertisements offered at a “bargin” price. But a 1958 legal notice indicates that the theatre ownership was dissolved after settling outstanding debts. This ends the Valley Head, Alabama, cinema exhibition run.
