The Salem Capital Journal wrote in November 1952 that construction was being rushed on the 12-ramp, 500-car Hubbard Drive-In just off Highway 99E. Its grand opening was scheduled for April 30, 1953, based on a note in the previous day’s Salem Stateman, which noted that it would be operated by Tom and Harry Moyer of Portland.

A storm blew down the Hubbard’s screen in November 1953. The following May, two cranes hauled it back into place. In June 1963, a Statesman article mentioned the sale of the “former Hubbard drive-in theatre site at Shirley Avenue”.

A 1953 aerial photo showed a drive-in northeast of Hubbard on Highway 99E on Shirley Avenue. It was still intact in 1960, but had fallen into disrepair by 1970. Today, the drive-in site is mostly housing, though the original projection building appears to have been annexed by a house on Taylor Lane.
