Situated in the Seaforth district of Liverpool, the Lathom Hall Picture Palace opened on 8th June 1912, a conversion of a social centre that had been built in 1884.

The proprietor and manager was G. H. Sewell, and the opening programme included “A Red Cross Martyr” (about the war in Tripoli) and comedies, with piano accompaniment and songs by Miss E. Dunville.

Despite being described by the press as the “most elaborate picture palace in the district”, the Lathom Hall Picture Palace had a surprisingly short life, and closed in 1916 under the ownership of G. R. Lloyd.

The building was initially used as a factory, first by the Icilma Face Cream Company, then as a stained glass window workshop. During World War II it was a NAAFI storeroom and, after the war, a school kitchen.

It was converted into a dance hall in the 1950’s, but disorder in February 1958 resulted in its closure.

The hall was later used as a Royal Naval Association club, then became another club, The Lathom. Still known as The Lathom, it is available for hire, primarily as a wedding venue.
