The twin-screen Whitesburg Cinema opened its doors by the Blackwood Theaters chain on May 16, 1985 with “The Company Of Wolves” in Screen 1 and “Rustlers' Rhapsody” in Screen 2, plus a weekend matinee of “The Care Bears Movie” the following day.

Screen 1 housed 345 seats while Screen 2 housed 242 seats, with both auditoriums having 3D installations. Screen 1 also housed Dolby Surround sound which had three speakers behind the screen and six speakers on the walls. It was originally managed by Mike Solomon, and was built on the same design as Norton’s Plaza I & II, but slightly larger.

The Whitesburg Cinema closed for the final time on March 3, 2000 with “The Tigger Movie” and “Scream” in Screen 1 and “The Whole Nine Yards” in Screen 2, and the theater itself was converted into a church.
