South Street Cinema operated on the 300 block of South Street, in the shadow of the legendary TLA Theatre from fall 2017 to Spring 2019.
A small storefront converted into a movie theatre, it developed a small cult following in Philadelphia, highlighted by its eclectically themed programming. Kung Fu Hip-Hop, Retro Horror, Silent films, and B-movies played nightly.
The Cinema was meant to be a brief pop-up promotion for the South Street District, but ended up operating for almost two years. It has gone back to retail use, as an eyewear store.
