Mrs. J.J. Patton opened the first movie theatre in town on September 1, 1915 with “The Fifth Commandment” starring Julius Steger. The venue was located in the Winslow Building at 137 South Riverside Drive. At that time, Rialto had fewer than 100 residents. It had half of the building with an auto garage in the other half. The building was referred to as the Winslow Theatre Building.

The Rialto Theatre operated there for nearly ten years, getting a new neighbor with the garage leaving for a dry goods store in 1922, before moving to the Juhlin Building at 111 South Riverside Drive. The “new” Rialto Theatre August 28, 1925 with Norma Shearer in “Broadway After Dark” supported by Larry Semon in “Cartoon Comedy”. The Rialto appears to be short-lived not making the transition to sound.
