Theatre

This ‘Electric Theatre’ appears on the 1908 Sanborn. It’s likely that this was just a designation, not a name, as there is another Electric Theatre further to the east on the same map. It was located in a two story brick building constructed in 1890. The 1899 map shows a clothing store and reading room here.

This was a rather marginal area, with some light industry and second hand stores shown as neighbors to the theater. This theater (which would have been quite small) was not a success, and by 1914 this building was used as a garage.

Sometime around the late-1950’s, this building was clad in metal siding, and at some point the ground floor was disfigured with a cheap fake Colonial style front. The unattractive building is today a law office.
