The Dreamland Theatre was listed in American Motion Picture Directory 1914-1915 at 404 Butte Street and on Sanborn Maps 1912 as Moving Pictures. By 1930 the street numbers were revised and the theater was gone.
Said to be the first theater in Redding, the Dreamland Theatre was operated by Jane Olney. Mrs. Olney would be associated with the Majestic Theatre, Stadium Theatre and Victory Theatre as well as a saloon.
From Motography, March 18, 1916: “To advertise the Dreamland Theatre, Redding, California, Mrs. Jane Olney, its owner, organized a boys’ band, known throughout the state of California as the Dreamland Boys' Band”.
As for the Majestic Theatre, it was said to be located in the BPOE Lodge, which was located at today’s 1529 Market Street. Unaccounted for on the 1910 Sanborn Maps is 1510 Market Street, possibly the Victory Theatre. Thanks to the Shasta Historical Society for information on the long-gone Stadium Theatre in the Lorenz Hotel, built 1901, at 1509 Yuba Street.
