The Alamo Theatre founded by then-Mayor Lionel J. “Lou” Langlois opened its doors on February 8, 1920 and was once destroyed by a fire on March 9, 1935.

After a complete rebuild, the Alamo Theatre relaunched on September 5, 1935, housing 600 seats and featured RCA Victor High Fidelity sound. The Alamo Theatre closed on March 31, 1957 after a short rental by King Theatre operator John Elzey. It was then converted into the J.S. Lann store which had been relocated from another location.
