The Queen Theatre opened as a silent house with two Powers projectors in 1925. It added sound to remain viable. P.P. Rumph operated it for three stretches in the 1920’s, the 1930’s and again in the 1940’s. It had a very brief run in the mid-1930’s as the Quitaque Theatre.
C.C. Ham of Ham Theatres bought the venue in 1953. That summer he built the long-running Midway Drive-In. The Queen Theatre managed to stay regal for two, 20-year leasing terms. She abdicated her throne on December 24, 1965 but only after celebrating her 40th Anniversary since her original coronation.
In 1967, the local utility company took on the venue and totally remodeled for its corporate office. They left town in 2001 as the energy marketplace was deregulated.
