Located in Visegrad, in Pest County, to the north of Budapest, on the right bank of the Danube in the “Danube Bend”, the Duna (“Danube”) Mozi cinema opened after World War II. The part-medieval, part-baroque building had previously been a restaurant.
In 1971, it underwent a major modernisation which included an upgrade of the projection equipment. The cinema was operated by the Pest County Cinema Company, but was acquired by the local government in 1993.
As the industry moved over to digital technology, it appears that the Duna Mozi was closed from around 2012 until October 2016, when its equipment had been upgraded.
The current seats were acquired from the Jászai Mari Theatre in Tatabánya.
The auditorium walls and ceiling are decorated with murals depicting the history and life of the town. These were by artist Iván Szkok.
Aside from the film shows, a stage is used for a variety of live events.
