Savoy Gainsborough

In Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, construction began on the £9m Market Place project in March 2024. Part of the ‘Thriving Gainsborough’ regeneration programme, this saw the return of a commercial cinema to the town since the demise of the State Cinema (see separate Cinema Treasures entry) around 2017.

The project also included two retail units and a restaurant. Additional parking spaces have been created, together with a new pedestrian link to Marshall’s Yard. It was funded by West Lindsey District Council, the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership, the government’s ‘levelling up’ fund, and the cinema operator.

The Savoy Gainsborough opened on Friday 18 July 2025. Seating capacities are: Screen 1:98, Screen 2:91, Screen 3:64 and Screen 4:59. Screen 1 is equipped with “Vertex”, a ‘Premium Large Format’ screen, with 4k laser projection and Dolby Atmos sound.

The opening films were children’s favourites “Smurfs” and “How to Train Your Dragon”, the 2025 remake of “Superman”, adventure sequel “Jurassic World Rebirth” and horror thriller sequel “I Know What You Did Last Summer”.
