The Village Green Playhouse 1 & 2 opened its doors by the Vicant Enterprises chain at the Village Green Plaza on January 12, 1972 with Sean Connery in “Diamonds Are Forever” in Screen 1 and Sandy Duncan in “Star Spangled Girl” in Screen 2. A cinema named Village Green Cinema was built adjacent to the Playhouse I & II and it opened on August 1, 1982. In 1984 it became the third screen of the Playhouse Theatres.

The Playhouse Cinemas closed in January 1994 and was converted into a bingo hall that May. As of 2025, Little Caesars, Goodwill, and Merle-Norman occupies the former theater building.

A separate mini theater called the Village Green Cinema opened next door on August 12, 1981. It wasn’t until 1984 when that theater was adjoined as the Playhouse Cinemas' third screen.
