The Stardust Theatre opened its doors for the first time in Haney (now part of Maple Ridge) as the Gem Theatre on June 30, 1941. Original owner W.J. Clayton later sold the Gem Theatre on November 7, 1944 to Odeon Theatres of Canada, which then renamed the theatre as the Odeon.
The Odeon Theatre was under threat of closure in 1957 when theatre projectionist Alex Marshall bought the Odeon to keep it open and changed its name to the Haney Theatre. After new owner Leo Prescott took the theatre over and closed it for renovations in the fall of 1970, he reopened it as the Stardust Theatre on January 1, 1971. The Stardust was sold again in 1976 and was eventually closed in the mid-1980’s, then was demolished.
The former site of the Stardust Theatre now serves as a parking lot for a nearby Dairy Queen restaurant.
