The 500-seat State Theatre was opened by 1929. In early afternoon on January 30, 1959 the theatre was ready to screen Elizabeth Taylor in “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof”, which never made it to the State Theatre screen as the theatre was destroyed by fire.
A new theatre. the Flame Theatre, was built on the site and opened in 1960. (It has its own page on Cinema Treasures).
