Opened in 1944, the Teatro Royal was one of two Golden Age movie theaters in La Feria that showed Spanish language films. Many of the films screened at the Royal Theatre were Mexican films. It was operated by the Womble Brothers who had multiple Spanish language theaters in the Rio Grande Valley. The Wombles also took on the open air El Patio giving it a roof. Teatro Royal began and ended its operational cycle as a hardtop cinema.
