The Church of Belmont was built and opened in 1964 and was designed by architect Pierre Gento, a disciple of architect Le Corbusier. The auditorium is located in a pyramid shaped building. It was deconsecrated in 1993. It was opened in 1996 as the Captiva, screening short scientific 3D films which opened the building as a cinema using two 35mm projectors. With the support of the Town Hall, a group of cinephiles took over the building and it re-opened as the Cine Duchere on May 8, 1996 with the animated feature film “Toy Story”. It now screens repertory programmes of independent films.
