The Arjo Theatre opened as early as 1926, which at the time was operated by Comerford Theaters Inc., and was renamed the Summit Theatre in 1933.

The Summit Theatre closed tragically after a massive fire caused by an overheat furnace destroyed the theatre on January 24, 1945 in the middle of freezing -14° weather. The fire was so massive and rapid that it also destroyed the Summit Printing Company building, two garages, and 14 cars in one garage, costing an estimate $100,000 in damages and destruction.

While fighting the flames, one 28-year-old Clarks Summit firefighter was injured after a crew member from the Abington Electric Company fell over and struck the firefighter in the head while attempting to remove a service pole. He was taken to the Clark Summit Hospital with a skull fracture.

After the Summit’s closure, Comerford later opened their own Comerford Theatre three years later, which has its own CT page.
