This theater was located in Riverside Park, a private amusement park which had opened by 1888. Located on the far south side of town along the Arkansas River, it offered dancing, an arcade, rides, etc.
The airdome was operating by 1909 at the latest. The 1905 map does not show this area. Originally it was composed of sets of bleachers and a large stage and scenery. By 1915, the seating area was covered by a huge wooden pavilion. This configuration remained on the 1922 map, but by 1929, the area was partially covered by what appears to be an early tourist court. On this map, the airdome is now much smaller and oriented N-S rather than E-W.
Riverside Park closed during the Depression, and was added to Carey Park, an existing municipal park further south along the river. All the structures were removed. #1023 is currently a small house which might be from about 1950.
It is known that vaudeville and burlesque were offered at the park, which also had a 3,000 seat amphitheater. It’s not certain films were ever shown here. More information would be appreciated.
