Located in the Schoneberg district to the south of the city centre. The Sportspalast was opened in 1910 as a sports hall. In 1919 it was converted to the plans of architect Eduard Fischer into a cinema named Sport-Palast-Lichtspiele, and was opened in 1920. It had a huge auditorium with a total seating capacity of 3,013-seats (2,636-seats on a flat-floored orchestra level and 377-seats in 3 levels of boxes and side slips). During the build-up to World War II in the mid to late-1930’s, it is most possible that it would be also used for political rallys.

It survived the Allied bombing of Berlin during World War II and it reopened in 1948 as the Filmtheater im Sportspalast. It had been remodeled to the plans of architect Franz H. Sobotka, Hermann Fehling & Gustave Muller. In 1959 the volume of the auditorium seating capacity was reduced to 1,732-seats and it was equipped with Cinemiracle and renamed Cinemiracle-Palast-Berlin, screening “Windjammer: The Voyage of the Christian Radich”. That ended in 1964 and it reverted back to regular film screenings and closed in 1966. It was demolished in 1973 after a short period of time as a sports hall. The site now contains a 10-storey block of apartments.
