Theater

This theater appears on the 1918 Sanborn, in a simple concrete block building with a tin front. This structure does not appear on the 1905 map.

The 1914-15 AMPD lists the Elite, Park, and Schrader Theatres (as well as the Pearl Theatre on Central). Any of these may be an ID for this structure. It’s probable that this theater was closed by 1926, when only one theater is listed in the Yearbook.

The 1943 map shows 2 stores located in this building. Harper’s downtown is really wretched. At least half of it has disappeared. This building was still standing in 2014, but was gone by 2023.

I’ve found no mentions of this theater in early trade journals, but yet another house turned up in the September 30, 1911 Motion Picture News, which said that “[t]he Airdome Theater was damaged by fire to the amount of $500.”
