This theater was built in 1910 as the Lyric. The building is a wide single story brick structure with attractive terra cotta accents. By 1912, it was called the Maplewood Theater, and was managed by W.B. Powhatan.
The theater is listed in the 1914-15 AMPD, but was remodeled by E.L. Scheidt in 1916 to create a hardware store. Scheidt Hardware remains in business in the original building today.
