Cinema des Arcades

The 748-seat Grand Cinema des Arcades was opened in February 1921 in a conversion of the former J. Manrique haberdashery store. It was equipped with a Mutin-Cavaille-Coll organ. The organ was removed in 1943 and was installed in St-Barthelemy church. The Cinema des Arcades became the premiere cinema in the city.

It was renovated in the early-1970’s and the seating capacity was reduced to 560-seats. It was closed in January 1986 and the auditorium was demolished in March 1986. The beautiful Art Nouveau style facade building had been listed as a historic monument in 1984, and is now the facade of a McDonalds restaurant.
