The Forest Theater limped to a close on September 27, 1965 and Interstate subleased it next to a group that turned it into a soul and blues live events theater which was active for several years, the Central Forest Club. It opened on October 13, 1967. Given the popularity of Motown, this was a logical choice for the nightspot that also served as a community center in the daytime.
