I managed this Millcreek 3 in the mid 80’s.
Millcreek Cimema 3 was build by General Cinema (GCC) when the Millcreek Mall was built in 1975. In the mid 1980’s, the mall was expanding and GCC decided to build a free standing 6-plex in the rear of the mall and called it the Millcreek 6. It had a whole new GCC look with the new Oak trim panels and new concession stands. The Millcreek 3 remained with the older red carpet and white formica concession stand.
This made 9 screens in the mall. Actually, the Millcreek 6 was supposed to be the Millcreek 8 but at the last minute the screens were cut to 6 and there is now a parking lot in the rear where two theaters we cut out.
The Millcreek 3 remained for some time. It was the home of the Rocky Horror Picture Show and other midnight movies for a few years. GCC finally closed it I believe in the early 90’s and kept the 6-plex in the rear.
Millcreek 3 was gutted by the mall and it is now a record/cd store.
Millcreek 6 was purchased from GCC by Cinemark in the early 90’s? and then Cinemark built a Tinseltown 17 further up the road in the new developments.
Millcreek 6 remains as a 2nd run movie house. Cinemark does not keep it maintained well, as it is showing signs of neglect.
Tinseltown just got a new remodel and stadium seating.
The NOW manager of Tinseltown 17 actually started at the Millcreek 3 as my assistant in the 80’s!
I’d love to hear from anyone with pictures or stories. I have fond memories of my days as a movie theater manager.

I saw Wierd Science here, the only movie I saw at this theatre. A few years later I <gag> Cowboy Way at the Milcreek 6. Recently I saw RV at the “Cinemark Milcreek Cinema 6”. I thought it was a better theatre for RV than Cowboy Way. Then again, the tickets for RV cost a whopping $1. And the theatre was packed.
Looks like these theatres were Cinemark at closing, Thursday, March 20, 1997. And it looks like Tinseltown opened on June 28, 1996. I didn’t even know about that theatre until 2001. I guess I am not as up on cinemas as I thought.
I wouldn’t call some theater built in a shopping center since 1970 “classic”, especially in a spectacle of urban spawl like the “Millcreek Mall”—I think theaters like the Warner or the Strand are what this site is after.
Millcreek Mall Cinema I-II-III during 1977 had a 26-week run of the original “Star Wars” concurrent with a booking at Cinema World.
Following its completion, there was a moveover run at Eastway, where “Star Wars” ran another 37 weeks for a total Erie run of 63 weeks. Pretty remarkable for a city the size of Erie.
Ah, so many fond memories of Rocky Horror. I can’t believe they acutally let us throw hot dogs around the theater.
I’d agree, The Millcreek Mall Cinema 3 isn’t exactly a classic cinema treasure… Still, as personal history goes? I saw Star Wars there on opening day when I was 10. In fact, it’s where I saw each of the original trilogy as they came out. I saw Alien there. I saw Life of Brian and Meaning of Life there. Convoy, Jaws 2, Coma, High Anxiety and The Pink Panther Strikes again. Star Trek: the Motion Picture. And Dark Crystal. I saw a midnight show of Ralph Bakshi’s Wizards there— I was like, 12 and it felt really cosmopolitan, cultured and a little dangerous to go to a midnight show.
Well the area where Cinema III was is now a FYE video store and the rest of the area is the new food court. Very nice actually. Progress…
The caption is wrong. This is a pic of the Millcreek 6. This was slightly remodeled around 2008 with a new carpet. That means that the vomit stain I left there is gone. I ate undercooked chicken and rice, and during the movie “The Waterboy” I know it was coming back up. I started to get tunnel vision when I hit the swinging doors and hit hard on both knees as I went down in the entrance, within 15 feet of the men’s room. I thought I was gonna die. But I felt great afterwards and finished watching the movie!
For a long time This was a $1 theater with $$.50 tuesdays. Since the banker bailout it has gone up.
I did the “Time Warp” dance at the Rocky Horror show back in the day at the 3 screen inside the mall. I also fell asleep during Dirty Dancing Midnight movies. I should have did what my friend did which was get up and see Pink Floyd’s The Wall in the other midnight showing.
This theater closed down on March 20th, 1997.
