Located on N. Main Street and 2nd Avenue, this theatre opened in 1938 as the Crosby Theatre. It was completely remodeled with new carpeting, seats and wall covering to match the seating.
The exterior was repainted with the Art Deco style striping highlighted. The facade under the the marquee has a dark brick effect. It has a squared marquee with no attraction panels, just the name Dakota spelled out in neon.
The Dakota Theatre is open Friday, Saturday and Sundays. There is a charge of a dollar extra to sit in the small balcony.

The records of the Grand Forks architectural firm Wells-Denbrook Architects (Theodore B. Wells and Myron Denbrook, Jr.) list a 1938 project at Crosby as the Metro Theatre. I’m not sure if it opened with that name or not. Wells was the lead architect of the project.
