Park Theatre

The Park Theatre was opened by 1927 when it was operated by Playhouse Operating Co. By 1940 the Park Theatre was operated by Prudential Circuit. This was a sub run Prudential house that closed either in the late-1950’s or early-1960’s.

The building appears to have been demolished and replaced by multi-family brick homes facing the side street. (133rd).

The presumed site of the theater can be seen in the fourth and fifth pictures, the lot with the “For Sale” sign (4), next to “Monica’s Nail Salon.” (5).

Thanks. I guess we can conclude that the street configuration was probably changed after the theater was demolished, then?

The photo of the Park Theater looks a lot like the Park Theater in Rockaway Park on B.116th St in the ‘30s or early 40’s. That box office looks very similar to the portable one used during the summer season. About mid September it would be rolled away and you bought your ticket at a window on the right side wall of the first lobby.

I’m not sure when the Park closed but I remember seeing “Old Yella” (Walt Disney)there about 1957.
