I lived in the area (Linden/144th St) in the 40’s and went to the “Marlboro” on Saturdays for about a dime. What a treat. Double features and tons of cartoons and the weekly serial. The place was a dump but it was where my friends and I loved to go. Also as a kid, I delivered groceries from the A&P for those without a car by pulling my loaded red wagon for 15cents or a quarter. Makes one wonder where 80 yrs went.

To mauriceski long after the fact, when I came onboard CT there was a lot of confusion of the manner in which Queens theaters were listed. To that end I contacted the powers that be and made sure only community names appeared and that the word “Queens” was only acceptable for Queens Village.

THE PEOPLE OF QUEENS, AS FAR AS I CAN REMEMBER,NEVER REFER TO THEMSELVES AS QUEENSITES.WE IDENTIFIED WITH THE COMMUNITIES.SUCH AS CORONA,FLUSHING,BAYSIDE,GLENRIDGE,RICHMOND HILL,QUEENS VILLAGE HOLLIS EAST ELMHURST,WHITESTONE,JAMAICA,ECT. THE REST OF THE FIVE BOROUGHS REFER TO THE BOROUGH INSTEAD OF THE SECTION THEY LIVE IN.JUST ONE OF THE PERCULARITIES OF QUEENSITES.I THINK THIS ONE THE REASONS PEOPLE CONFUSE LONG ISLAND WITH QUEENS

South Jamaica, had sections such as Cedar Manor,Dunton,Bricktown and Basiley Park. Also Jamaica Racetrack was on Basiley Blvd.So was Basiley Pond Park also Woodrow Wilson High School. All of this area was and still is South Jamaica. So saying that something is in Basiley Park and not Jamaica is like saying Shea Stadium is in Flushing and not Queens.

Supthin Blvd begins at Hillside Ave and goes due south to Rockaway Blvd where it ends. Meaning that it is only in Jamaica and South Jamaica. The address given above is definitely in South Jamaica.Richmond Hill is west of the Van Wyck (WIKE) Expressway.

There had to be two Malboes.? The one I went to was in south ozone park on sutphin blvd and about 119th st. that neighborhood did become black later on but this one wasn’t in south jamaica. It was across from one of the firsr A&Ps.My cousin took me to see The first Frankenstein movie with Boris Karloff when I was 5 years old (1935) sadist!!!! that she was.I spent many hours in that little place.Fat Bob at the (lobby??) pulled a heavy curtain aside to let you in.Three changes a week so I got my film ed on the movies hard wooden seats.I remember Buck Jones westerns Flash Gordon serials Gone with the Wind-David Copperfield- Dick Powell musicals. I often wonder what happened to all those glossy stills of the current movie that were in cases that lined the front of theatre. They would be collectors items today

If I am correct, the building at the address above has been replaced with a modern daycare facility. The current structure does not resemble a former theatre. I covered this entire area on Sunday two weeks ago and found many of the listed theatre buildings in one use or another.
