The Cinema I & II was opened in September 1978. In April 1983 a third screen was added. Following a restoration, in June 1995 four more screens were added, becoming the Highland 7 Cinema. Operated by Marquee Cinemas from October 3, 1997. This eight screen seats 1,850. All auditoriums feature Dolby Digital Sound. It has a central concession area. Nicely appointed lobby and auditoriums.

This multiplex was built in the 70’s by the same family that built every other theatre in this town – the Aspley family. They closed their last “great” theatre – The Plaza – and sold it when the multiplex was complete.
Once known as the Cinema 1-2-3 in the 1980s.
This started life as a twin under the name “Cinema I & II” in September 1978. A third screen was added in April 1983 as the “Cinema 1-2-3”, and four more screens were added after renovation in June 1995 as the “Highland 7 Cinema”. Marquee Cinemas took over the theater on October 3, 1997.
was it an independent operator when open in 1978?
Yes. It was independently operated. However, it was operated by the same people that operated the nearby Star Drive-In. Brian Dale became the manager of the theater in December 1983.
