I was there on June 8th and there doesn’t appear to be anything new to report. The town doesn’t appear to be any better than it was 10 years ago, but also not worse. Not much going on here.
Anyone know the status of this theater and who I might be able to speak to in lever to get access to photograph the property?

I would like to email sabear the relative of Mart Cole, Sr about the footage of John Wayne when he came to Rosenberg. I grew up there and my Mom said around 1950 he came into town with Ward Bond for a movie premier at the Cole Theatre. We were on the sidewalk and when they got out of the car they patted me on my head according to my Mom. Do you have that on the footage? Thanks
This is a great theater. I hope it makes it.
Any news on this theater? Anything going on that yall can report?
Any news on this place? Is anyone doing anything with it?
I agree..bring back the old great neon marquees!
Wow, LM, that 1920’s photo is awesome. The current photos show the facade can use some work. I hope they get a cool marquee with some neon. Really packs a punch in small town downtowns.
Anything happening to this theatre? Anyone know anything?

I recently moved to Rosenberg. I was wondering what was going on with this theater. There is also another theater that I ran across recently in the same area. The downstairs is an antique shop. We walked up the stairs and to the right is an old theater that was being used for live performances. They were selling the old seating to raise money to buy new seating and other things. I don’t remember the name of it. It could be the other theater the other poster mentioned.
Hard to tell, from the night photos, but seems to be looking better. Wonder what they’ve got planned for the inside?
Here’s my 2/16/07 picture of it at night:

Found out yesterday the roof is fixed, new AC units on the roof and alot of stuff going on inside the theatre. Its coming back!
Maybe he will do it up extra nice. Will be worth the wait..just dont go in there alone..I mean that.
There is an interview article on WL “Bill” Butler in the January 2006 issue of the Fort Bend (County) Business Journal. Evidently, the Cole Theater is the last of 25 properties that he has purchased in downtown Rosenberg with the aim of revitalizing the area.
In it, he mentions that he is rather a slow-poke when it comes to renovation to minimize whatever problems he may encounter (whatever that means). Apparently he doesn’t know/hasn’t decided what to do with the Cole (formerly the Cozy, then the Liberty) just yet. And he has other structures on his plate as well. In short, don’t hold your breath on this one. It may take a good long time.
The Library in Rosenberg is a grat place to start with questions. they have a great one with pics and historian there also.
The only other theatres from this period that I know of in Rosenburg were the Liberty (circa 1930)and the State (circa 1940). I don’t know the street address of either theatre.
You all seem so knowledgable…here’s a tough one: Does anyone know the story about the yellow building on Morton between Second and Third in Richmond? From the architecture, I just know it was a theater once upon a time.
No new news on the restore. Sort of taking its time, but saved at least. News from city source.
Any news on the restore??
Anyone know anything about the status of the restore???
Here is a 1999 photo of the Cole.
